Heart Healthy Life

I have always been fairly health conscious. However, it hasn’t prevented me from experiencing genetic heart issues. Recently, I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. It was frightening.  I was at risk of a heart attack and was experiencing angina and some other cardiac issues. My doctor sent me to the cardiologist, who put me on statin meds and told me implement a new way of eating. He asked me to eliminate all animal products from my diet. The only animal products allowed would be from the sea so I could get my omegas. Lowering sodium, lowering fat, eliminating processed foods, white sugar and white flour were additional stipulations to this new way of eating. This was going to be a challenge. I decided that I would start posting some of the ways I overcome the challenge and still eat tasty food. Heart healthy does not have to mean bland and uninteresting. I plan on proving that!! Low sodium, sugar free, low fat and heart healthy conjure up images of really boring food, but I was determined to keep my diet exciting despite the limitations. I ended up pleasantly surprised at how tasty and decadent heart healthy food could be! On these pages and on my blog I will post about heart health and will post recipes I come up with along with tips & tricks for a healthier life. Hopefully this can help others eat healthy too. Enjoy!!!
